Tryout Information for the 2024-2025 Season
Our competitive volleyball program offers more than just skill training; it's a supportive environment filled with athletes and coaches who share a passion for the game and are dedicated to building the next generation of volleyball. Whether this is your first season of club volleyball or your next, Metro East Vortex is where you'll find a community of athletes committed to growth, teamwork, and success both on and off the court. Our tryout process is uniquely designed to seek out talented athletes within our area who are passionate about the sport and driven to reach their highest potential.
2024-2025 Gateway Region Tryout Calendar
July 26-28, 2024
Girls High School (15U, 16U, 17U, 18U)
September 6-8, 2024
Boys High School (15U, 16U, 17U, 18U)
Boys Middle School (10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U)
October 25-27, 2024
Girls Middle School (10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U)
Tryout Registration
Online registration for all tryouts will open three weeks prior to the initial tryout date. Tryout timelines are set by our USAV region. All USAV affiliated tryouts in the Gateway Region will occur during or after the official tryout weekend.
All players must bring a signed copy of the USAV Tryout Waiver to tryouts in order to participate. This form is required by our Gateway USAV Region.
2023-2024 USAV Age Definitions
The following information is provided by USA Volleyball. For more information regarding USAV age definitions and junior player eligibility download the pdf below.
18 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2006
Players who were born on or after July 1, 2004 and a high school student in the twelfth (12th) grade or below during some part
of the current academic year are eligible to compete on 18 and under teams.
17 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2007
Girls 17U: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2005 (18 years or younger) who shall neither have completed nor are in a
grade higher than the eleventh grade (11th) during the current academic year will be allowed to participate in the 17 an under
age division. This age waiver is still subject to frozen roster rules. (This age waiver is based on recruiting concerns for girls in
the 11th grade who would otherwise be required to participate in girls 18’s qualifiers and the Girls 18’s GJNC.)
16 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2008
15 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2009
14 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2010
Boys 14U: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2008 (15 years or younger) who shall neither have completed nor are in a
grade higher than the eighth grade (8th) during the current academic year will be allowed to participate at the USA Junior
National Championships on 14 and under teams. This age waiver is still subject to frozen roster rules. (This exception is based
on the net height difference of 7’4 1/8” to 7’ 11 5/8” between the 14 and Under Division to the 15 and Under Division.)
13 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2011
Boys 13U: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2009 (14 years or younger) who shall neither have completed nor are in a
grade higher than the seventh grade (7th) during the current academic year are eligible for a Region approved waiver to
compete in the boys 13’s age group. This age waiver is still subject to frozen roster rules.
12 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2012
Boys 12U: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2010 (13 years or younger) who shall neither have completed nor are in a
grade higher than the sixth grade (6th) during the current academic year are eligible for a Region approved waiver to compete
in the boys 12’s age group. This age waiver is still subject to frozen roster rules.
11 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2013
10 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2014
9 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2015
8 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2016
7 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2017
6 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after July 1, 2018
